A light and unstable breeze conspired against the first day of the Audi MedCup Camper Regatta at Barcelona.

The fleet left the dock at 11.45am. The race committee abandoned racing and sent the yachts home at 4.30pm.

Temperatures on the water were in the mid-30s and crews waited under awnings set up over the booms.
Skipper Dean Barker said: “It never looked like we would get a race in. The breeze hovered around 4-5 knots and was very unstable. We could see massive holes all over the course.

“The race committee made the right call. It would have been a mistake to start in the conditions; there was not enough wind to have a fair race.”

The forecast for tomorrow is a little better and the consensus is that racing will get underway.
