After five seasons playing for the Auckland Aces, big-hitting BLACKCAP Scott Styris will play for the Northern Knights in the 2010/11 season - his old province and the reigning national champions in both four-day and one-day cricket.

Northern Districts Cricket CEO David Cooper says Styris's return is exciting both for the Knights and their supporters. “Scott is a hugely experienced player and proved how significant his performances are, at both the international and domestic level, when setting up wins for the BLACKCAPS and Aces last year. He has continued to show that skill in the UK this winter. This ability to perform under pressure and being a BLACKCAP adds another string to our bow as we aim for more trophies this coming season”.

Styris is currently in Sri Lanka with the BLACKCAPS, as is Northern Knights Head Coach Grant Bradburn, who has joined the team as part of the BLACKCAPS support staff on this tour.

Besides winning both the Plunket Shield (domestic four-day cricket) and the domestic one-day trophies last summer, the Northern Knights were also one of the most exciting Twenty/20 sides. Their dominance in all styles of cricket was reflected last week when New Zealand Cricket announced its contracted players list for the coming season: a quarter of the 20 best payers in the land were Northern Knights, and with the addition of Styris Northern Districts can now lay claim to six of the 20 contracted BLACKCAPS.
