New Chairman for Sport Manawatu
Sport Manawatu is pleased to announce Nolan King as the new chairman of the board.
Mr King joined the board in October 2008 and took up the chair’s role this June after previous chairman Christopher Boyle tendered his resignation to focus on business commitments. However, Mr Boyle will continue to play an active role as a board member.
Stepping up from deputy chair, King is pleased to take on the new position. “I’m very excited about becoming chairman and working with the team to maintain and increase participation in sport and recreation,” he says of his new role.
As well as his position with Sport Manawatu, Mr King wears a number of hats including financial controller for FieldAir Holdings, committee member for the Palmerston North Basketball Association, and board member for the Manawatu Jets.
“I’ve been raised in the Manawatu from the age of five and want to give back to the community by being involved with sports administration,” he says. Passionate about sport, Nolan plays basketball, indoor and outdoor cricket, volleyball and indoor netball.
“My vision is to see Manawatu as the leading region for sports participation at all levels – we’ve got lots of activities, clubs and events where everyone has the opportunity to be involved.”
Sport Manawatu has been in action as a charitable trust since 1987 and covers the Manawatu, Horowhenua and Tararua areas.
