Kiwis Finish With More Medals at IPC Swimming World Championships

New Zealand has finished with seven medals at the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands with Sophie Pascoe winning her fifth and Cameron Leslie earning a gold on the final day of the meeting.

Leslie from Auckland won his gold (the second for New Zealand overall) in the 150 IM in a time of 2m33.98 seconds, nearly seven seconds ahead of his nearest rival, Jan Povysil from the Czech Republic with Japan’s Takayuki Suzuki third.

Canterbury teenager, Pascoe, won the silver medal in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1m07.85 seconds, behind Canadian Summer Ashley Mortimer (1m06.74 seconds), with American Susan Beth Scott third.

The silver is the fifth medal for Pascoe after earlier winning gold in the 100m butterfly, silver in the 200m medley, silver in the 50m freestyle and bronze in the 100m breaststroke. A bronze medal was also won by Aucklander, Rebecca Dubber earlier in the event.
