Roll up your sleeves and keep NZ beautiful
The annual Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean Up Week will again take place in September this year.
The Waikato district will be taking part in the national week-long event that encourages individuals, schools, and organisations to get involved and pick up litter in their communities.
Waikato District Council Chief Executive, Gavin Ion, said Clean Up Week was a great opportunity for people to really show their pride in their community.
“Last year more than 1300 volunteers helped paint over tagging and remove rubbish from local parks, reserves, and roadways.
“We encourage all residents to roll up their sleeves, and give the Waikato district a big spruce up,” he said.
Waikato District Council will provide litter bags, recycle bags, and gloves to participants in Clean Up Week, as well as organise the collection of filled bags from designated pick up points.
To get involved, schools, groups and individuals need to complete a registration form and nominate a ‘clean up area’ for your project. The event will take place from Friday 17 – Friday 24 September 2010.
Registration forms are available on Council’s website www.waikatodistrict.govt.nz, from Council offices, or from Waikato District Libraries.
The closing date for registrations is Wednesday 8 September 2010.
