BLACKCAP all-rounder Jacob Oram will have surgery on his injured knee next week after an MRI scan showed damage to his patellar tendon.

Oram had problems with the same knee before April’s ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean and then injured the kneed again during July’s pre-tour camp in Darwin. It was hoped the injury could be managed conservatively but the worsened through the Sri Lankan tour and surgery is now the treatment preferred”.

It is not yet known how long Oram will be out but he won’t be available for the Central Stags in next months Champions League.

Medical staff will review Oram four to six weeks after surgery to assess progress and timeframes will be set for rehabilitation after this. They will continue to monitor his progress in the coming weeks to determine his availability for BLACKCAPS selection.

The 32 year old is still committed to representing the BLACKCAPS and is positive about making a full recovery this year with a view to be fully fit well in advance of the ICC World Cup.

“While I’m gutted to miss the Champions League with the Stags I’m thankful the medical specialist has found the problem now so we can get the right plans in place to get it right,” an upbeat Oram said.

“I’ve been told that I should be realistically targeting the Pakistan homes series at the end of the year, but who knows, if surgery and rehab goes well I may be available for section before the Indian tour in November. These decisions will be made in consultation with the medical staff.

“It’s frustrating more than anything but I’ve been through this before and I’m confident I can return to the BLACKCAPS injury free following a course of rehabilitation,” Oram concluded.
