Contracts worth $4.6 million awarded for city infrastructure developments

Rotorua District Council (RDC) has approved a total of more than $4.6m of contracts for highway re-sealing, upgrading water services, and sewage waste treatment.

Seventeen tenders were received for the three contracts, which were eventually awarded to Fulton Hogan Ltd, Goodrick Contracting Ltd, and Longveld Engineering Ltd.

Fulton Hogan was awarded the $1.8 million contract for ‘2010/2011 Rotorua State Highways Reseals’, which includes chipseal work in both rural and urban locations.

RDC district engineer Nico Claassen says Fulton Hogan has successfully completed this type of annual contract recently, and has the experience resources and capacity to complete the work in the current financial year. The contract is fully funded by the New Zealand Transport Agency.

Meanwhile Goodrick Contracting Ltd has secured a $1.8 million contract for the ‘ Water Supply Upgrade’.

The upgrade involves construction of a new pressure main from the pump station at Taniwha Springs to both Central Rd and Henderson Rd reservoirs, and a link main from Fairy Spring Rd to Kawaha Point Rd.

Mr Claassen says local company Goodrick Contracting has proven experience with RDC and has carried out pipe laying on several projects over the past 20 years.

The $1 million contract for ‘Biosolids Treatment: Thermal Oxidation Pilot Plant’ has been awarded to Longveld Engineering.

“This innovative project will help develop new technology for sustainable treatment of organic waste, in line with the council’s Waste Management and Minimisation Plan,” says Mr Claassen. “A pilot plant is necessary to refine design parameters, prior to full scale installation.”

The project is being undertaken in conjunction with Scion, and other funding partners.
