Subway – Avanti’s Michael Vink has been selected in the New Zealand cycling team for the road cycling world championships being held near Melbourne later this month.

The talented young Christchurch rider has recently returned from a five month stint racing for a club team in Belgium.

Vink is joined by George Bennett (Nelson) and Jason Christie (Ashburton) in the under-23 road race team with Vink and Cambridge rider Shem Rodger to do the individual time trial.

Another Subway – Avanti under 23 rider James Williamson was unlucky to miss out on making the team.

The time trial for under-23 men and women takes place on Wednesday 29 September with the elite men the following day. The under 23-men’s road race in Geelong is on Friday 1 October, the women on Saturday 2 October and the men is on Sunday 3 October.
