Water testing is being carried out across the city, with information expected to be available within two to three days. In the meantime, residents are advised to continue to boil all water for drinking and food preparation.

Roads

A number of city roads still remain closed. These are:

Dyers Road from Metro Place to Bridge Street traffic island
Bexley Road from Bridge Street traffic island to pages Road
Breezes Road from Bridge Street traffic island to Cuthberts Road
Evans Road from Admirals Way to Estuary Road
Avonside Drive from Stanmore Road to Glucester Street/Retreat Street
Colombo Street from the Moorhouse Rail Overbridge to Elgin Street
Harper Avenue: Eastbound (City bound) lanes closed at Fendalton Road and Helmores Road intersections

A number of city bridges still remain closed. These are:

Bridge Street, South Brighton
Saby’s Road, Halswell
Old Waimak Bridge

Rain

Heavy rain is predicted over the coming days. While it is not expected that this will cause additional issues, residents are advised that the extra water in the stormwater system could overflow and cause pot holing where there are cracks in the pipeline. This is most likely to affect areas that have already experienced subsidence or hollowing.

Surveys of city riverbanks are now underway and work is being carried out to clear away silt and debris. The focus of this work is the suburbs of Burwood, Bexley and Avonside. The Army is helping with this work.
