Canterbury Earthquake Appeal – Commission announced

Former high court judge, Sir John Hansen of Rangiora will chair the 5 strong Canterbury Earthquake Appeal commission.

The commission will comprise Mr Neil Cruickshank, Councillor Waimakariri District, Mr Michael McEvedy, former Mayor Selwyn District Council, Mr Norm Whithers, Deputy Mayor Christchurch City Council and Mr Jerry Talbot, Counsellor of Honour and former Chief Executive of New Zealand Red Cross.

The first meeting of the newly appointed commissioners for the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal will occur today at 3.30pm at the New Zealand Red Cross service centre at 32 Birmingham Drive, Christchurch.

The commission will be assigned the task of creating terms of reference and disbursements of the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal which has now reached $3.5 million in donations.

The Canterbury Earthquake Appeal is the single appeal fund receiving donations to support those affected by Saturday’s earthquake in Canterbury.

The Mayors of Canterbury and New Zealand Red Cross Chief Executive, John Ware pledge that 100 per cent of every donation received by the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal will be spent entirely on the people affected by the earthquake.
