Wanted: Youth Council members to get involved in decision making and promoting the needs of Wellington city's young people.

Wellington City Council is looking for young people aged between 12 and 24 who are keen to work closely with the Council to improve its relationship with the city's youth and promote access to the Council's services.

The Council's Director of Citizen Engagement, Wendy Walker says the Youth Council has been working with Wellington young people since 1998.

"It is a great way of gaining valuable life skills, including communication and negotiation skills, which help prepare you for the workforce.

"The Youth Council provides an important link between the Council and our youth communities. I would encourage anyone wanting to make a difference for young people in our city to stand.

The Youth Council gets involved in making decisions on initiatives that effect young people and ensures the Council is aware of the needs of young people and how these can be met.

Applications close 5.00pm, 12 September. New members will receive training and mentoring and will be paid a travel allowance.
