‘One person’s junk is someone else’s treasure’, or so the old saying goes. And next month there is an opportunity to prove the point.

Keep Rotorua Beautiful’s (KRB) annual Second-Hand Sunday is taking place on Sunday 17 October from 8.30am to 11.30am.

The event involves residents placing unwanted items at the front of their properties on Second-Hand Sunday so bargain hunters can check them out and take away anything they may find useful.

Rotorua District Council KRB coordinator Christine Findon says it is an ideal opportunity for local communities to spring clean their homes, garages and back yards without the hassle of taking it to the landfill or exchanging money.

“Curtain rods, bricks, toys, books, and building materials are just some items that people may want to get rid of and others may have a good use for.

“All participants have to do is register, and then place their goods in a suitable location on Second-Hand Sunday.

“It’s a good way to reduce clutter around the house in a similar concept to a garage sale except no money changes hands. Any leftover uncollected items can be put away again or other outlets considered.”

All registered properties will be advertised prior to the event, increasing people’s chances of their items being collected. Second-Hand Sunday signs will be provided to participating houses.
