A printing error at national electoral printers, Datam, has meant a small number of Hastings District voters have received partly incorrect voting papers.

Voting papers for the 2010 Local Government Election, on October 9, were sent out nationally on Friday and most voters should have their papers already.

Since papers were delivered Hastings District and Hawke’s Bay Regional Council have been made aware of some incorrect voting papers.

Electoral Officer Peter Woodroffe says it appears just a small number of voters in Tokomaru Drive, Havelock North and in the Kahuranaki ward have received incorrect voting papers with respect to one part of the paper.

Mr Woodroffe says voters in these areas should check their voting papers carefully.

“Please be assured election staff are checking who might be affected and we will be contacting those voters over the next few days to issue them a special voting paper if necessary,” Mr Woodroffe says.

The electoral office is putting in place a system to retrieve incorrect voting papers people may have already sent. Those people will also get the opportunity to fill out corrected voting papers.”

Staff will be in contact with affected voters but if your papers appear incorrect, and you haven’t been contacted by Friday, please contact the electoral officer on 871 5000.

Datam have accepted full responsibility for the error and wish to extend their apologies for any inconvenience caused.
