This year marks the 50th anniversary of seven-a-side Netball in New Zealand and the Lion Foundation Netball Champs are set to be bigger and better than ever.

The nation’s most talented Netball stars from 12 regions will tough it out in front of national selectors and friends and family to find New Zealand’s number one regional team.

Many familiar faces from the ANZ Championship will be competing in the tournament including Cathrine Latu, Sheryl Scanlan and Anna Thompson.

The finals games are being held at Waitakere’s Trusts Stadium Arena from September 30th through to October 2nd.

Tracey Fear, Netball New Zealand High Performance Director, believes that along with watching national representatives, the competition also provides a great platform for young netballers to showcase their skills.

“The tournament will be an ideal opportunity to cheer on some of the nation’s best netballers playing in their provincial colours,” she says.

The three day event is one not to be missed for Netball fans of all ages. Competitions will be running and Netball memorabilia will be on display to celebrate the 50 year milestone.

Netball fans are encouraged to get behind their local team, whether it be North, Auckland Waitakere, Counties Manukau, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Eastern, Western, Wellington, Tasman, Canterbury, Otago or Southland.

For those unable to attend, become a fan of Netball New Zealand on Facebook for updates and photos. Selected games will also be screening on Sky Television. See www.mynetball.co.nz for more information.
