BikeNZ statement - Greg Henderson

BikeNZ is disappointed but supportive of the decision by cyclist Greg Henderson to withdraw from the team for the Commonwealth Games.



Henderson advised a BikeNZ official in Melbourne that he was withdrawing, citing personal and family reasons.



BikeNZ Chief Executive Kieran Turner said the organisation supported the individual decision of athletes, but was fully confident that the NZOC will make the best decision on New Zealand’s involvement in Delhi.



“Athlete safety and security is our number one priority and we would not do anything to put them at risk.”



Mr Turner said that BikeNZ has sufficient cover within the squad to replace Henderson in the Road Race.
