Christchurch Women Invest in Looking Their Best Confirming Global Trend
“We are rushed off our feet.”
That from Skin Rejuvenation Clinic’s Dr Brigid Lee and Denise Prosser today after Nielsen’s online *survey revealed women all over the world may be cutting back on discretionary expenses during the recession but continue to spend on health and beauty products.
“The last three weeks particularly have been exceptionally busy,” she says. “Often a little warmth, the sun arriving with the daffodils and tulips – these things remind us the winter is over and the summer dresses come out of the closet. As part of that, women like to make themselves feel as good about themselves as they can and a treatment or two helps that, as well as some clinic products to maintain results.”
In the Nielsen survey, 44% of global respondents said it was the lure of the product’s promise. A pragmatic 69% of respondents said they were influenced by price, while 58% said they bought as a result of a personal recommendation. Magazine articles, Internet buzz and traditional ads all factored into the purchase equation as well. Brigid Lee and Denise Prosser say the top treatments are botox, micro-dermabrasion ,lip line fillers and skin improving treatments.
“We have been doing a lot of Botox treatments since the earthquake as clients had noticed they were looking stressed and anxious , and even though Botox can’t make the stress disappear it can help with the worry lines!”
* Global Online Survey of more than 27,000 people across 55 countries in the first quarter of 2010
