It’s another winner for Luke Dallow with Chapel Bar & Bistro scooping the title of ‘Best Bar’ at the prestigious Hospitality Association of New Zealand’s 2010 Awards last night.

Dallow couldn’t be happier with the result. “It’s an absolute honour and I’d like to say thanks to all my staff and supporters who have played a part in helping to make Chapel the success story it is.

“When we started out, my vision for Chapel was simple – create a bar that has the perfect mix of ambiance, quirkiness, quality produce and service to keep customers happy – this award shows we’ve gone a long way to achieving those goals. “

Both Dallow’s Sale St bar and restaurant in Freeman’s Bay and the entrepreneur’s Ponsonby Road establishment, Chapel Bar & Bistro, were finalists in the Hospitality Association of New Zealand’s 2010 Awards for Excellence, going up against each other in the Best Bar category.

Neither venue is a stranger to the awards stage.

Sale St opened in October 2008 and in June the following year picked up a Lewisham Award for Best Ambiance and Style. In last year’s HANZ Awards it took out the Supreme Overall Award as well as awards for Best New / Redeveloped Bar or Restaurant and Best Bar.

Chapel Bar & Bistro won Best Bar at the 2008 HANZ Awards while a year earlier it was the winner of the HANZ award for Excellence in Training and Staff Development. In 2006 it won Best New Bar at the NZ Bar Awards.
