Hamilton City Council CEO resigns to take role with Auckland Super City
Hamilton City Council Chief Executive Michael Redman has resigned to take up a senior role with the new Auckland Super City.
He will finish at the city on Friday 29 October.
Mr Redman has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive of the new Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development CCO.
Mr Redman said it was a very difficult decision to leave the city which had made huge progress in recent years.
“Improving the performance of the Auckland economy is an issue of national importance and this opportunity is a once in a career chance to contribute to the most significant reorganisation of local government since 1989.”
He acknowledged the support of both staff and Hamilton people.
“I have been greatly supported in my work by the Mayor and Councillors, general managers and all staff. I will miss the great team environment here.”
During his six years at Hamilton City Council Mr Redman has acted as both mayor and chief executive, and has helped strengthen Hamilton’s reputation as a progressive, metropolitan city.
Hamilton Mayor Bob Simcock thanked Mr Redman for the huge contribution he has made to the city.
“It is disappointing Hamilton is going to lose him, but it is a tremendous compliment given the work the city has done in the events and promotion areas.”
“He’s been a very big part of a stable and productive period in Hamilton’s political history. We wish him well.”
