Residents only have two weeks left to submit their nominations for one of Hamilton’s
highest honours – the Hamilton Civic Awards.
Nominations for the awards opened in August and are due to close on 24 October.
The Hamilton Civic Awards recognise the invaluable work of the many dedicated
individuals who everyday make extraordinary contributions to our city.
A maximum of 20 awards are bestowed annually for everything from longstanding
involvement in arts and culture, to dedication to people, education, sport, enterprise
and the environment. While the Civic Awards traditionally acknowledged voluntary
service, exceptional contributions made during paid service are now also eligible.
Hamilton City Council event and function co-ordinator Lisa Pemberton said the awards
aim to pay tribute to the efforts of individuals who work tirelessly in all areas of the
community.
“Often it can be difficult to give these people the acknowledgement they deserve as
they tend to be reluctant heroes who play down their achievements or don’t talk about
their efforts. But these are exactly the type of people we hope to recognise with the
Civic Awards – they’re the true backbone of our city who help make Hamilton such a
great place to live, work and play.”
