About 90% of householders put a crate of recyclables out for collection and well over 90% of the material collected complied with the requirements. That’s a great result for week one.
People have taken on board the message that

  • lids should be off bottles
  • cans should be clean
  • milk bottles are rinsed
  • paper is bundled up.

This makes it so much easier for the staff on the collection trucks as well as at the Resource Recovery Centre.

Just a reminder – the kerbside collection does not take

  • pizza boxes
  • aerosol cans.

Some of the sorting is done on the trucks during the collection round; brown, green and clear glass, paper/cardboard and plastic/cans are separated by the contractors before they drop off their load for further sorting.

The first week or two of kerbside recycling may be the biggest as people clear their backlog of recyclables. However anyone with extra large loads – too much for their crate – can take the material direct to the Resource Recovery Centre at Wither Road Extension.
