Ford's popular Fiesta is undergoing a variety of enhancements for 2011, giving the Car of the Year award winner even more to boast about – including a diesel power train option and the introduction of an all-new six-speed PowerShift® automatic transmission.

The popularity of the award-winning Ford Fiesta hatch is set to grow further when the first models from the enhanced 2011 range go on sale 1 November, offering small-car buyers even greater value, choice, performance and style.

New Powershift® automatic six-speed transmission
Chief amongst 2011 Fiesta's changes is the addition of the new PowerShift® automatic six-speed transmission. PowerShift® introduces an efficient and smooth-changing double dry-clutch transmission option to the petrol variants that offers the convenience of an automatic with the fuel efficiency of a manual. Effectively, PowerShift® consists of two transmissions working in parallel, each with its own clutch unit. The layout of the intermediate shafts means that gear changes can be prepared by pre-selecting the next gear while in motion and at full power. This leads to less torque interruption and a more consistent, smoother driving experience. The new PowerShift® automatic six-speed dual-clutch transmission will be available with the standard-fitment 1.6-litre petrol engine.

The 1.6L petrol engine delivers 89kW and 151Nm of torque, adding even more driving fun. Like its diesel siblings, fuel consumption is low, with both the PowerShift® and manual petrol derivatives using just 6.1-litres per 100km (combined cycle, ADR81/02).

Diesel Power
The Fiesta line up also includes the expansion of diesel power train beyond the already announced ECOnetic model. The highly efficient 1.6-litre diesel engine is torque-rich – 200Nm – and impressively fuel-efficient, consuming only 4.4-litres per 100km (combined cycle, ADR81/02). Partnering the diesel engine is a five-speed manual transmission. Meanwhile, the impressive five-door Fiesta ECOnetic will continue to offer the greenest option for drivers at 3.7-litres per 100km, making it New Zealand's most fuel-efficient vehicle.

New features
Fiesta's trademark value will now be even greater thanks to a number of equipment enhancements. All 2011 Fiesta models will pack an impressive safety arsenal, which includes seven airbags along with the carry-over safety features of standard ABS braking, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and traction control.

A new sports suspension system will underpin the sporty Fiesta Zetec. This combines specially tuned front struts, bushings and damper stabiliser bars to enhance driving performance. New sports front seats will also be added, holding Zetec drivers comfortably in place.

A number of subtle exterior design changes further enhance Fiesta's kinetic design and include new wheel designs and body-coloured bumpers. The 2011 Fiesta also gains an exciting new colour and upholstery palette, comprising nine paint colours and three interior trim choices.
