WELLINGTON CITY

A year ago, we asked you how you would like central Wellington to look in the year 2040. This was the start of our strategic plan for Wellington, called 'Wellington 2040'.

The plan is to identify what we need to work on and prioritise to ensure Wellington remains a great place to live, work and play over the next 30 years.

After receiving your feedback, we carried out research in to what trends are expected to affect cities globally over the next 30 years.

As agreed in the 2010-11 Annual Plan, we've commissioned a planning and design company to analyse our movement network and public spaces, to predict how different kinds of development could affect the way people move around the city.

We have also engaged Randle Straatveit Architects, in partnership with New Zealand environmental planning and design consultancy Boffa Miskell, to deliver a plan for the central city.

The plan will guide future decisions on the design and form of buildings, public spaces and city infrastructure.
You can see a summary of the feedback from our last consultation on this website in the Projects section.
We are happy to receive feedback on this project any time, but we would particularly like you to keep an eye out for the next consultation which we are planning for February next year.
