New Zealanders can dispose of their old PCs, computer peripherals and mobile phones at eDay this Saturday.

eDay is being held at over 50 drop-off locations throughout New Zealand on Saturday 6th November and is expected to divert 1,000 tonnes of electronic waste (e-waste) from landfills.

The Hastings collection will take place at:

E-Waste Recycling Hawke’s Bay
53 Tollemache Road East
Hastings
9am-3pm

The community drive-through event is an opportunity for households, schools, community groups and small businesses to clear out their garages and cupboards of computer equipment and old mobile phones, to be recycled for free.

The Government estimates that there are 80,000 tonnes of electronic waste disposed of into landfills in New Zealand per year.

Hastings District Council Waste Minimisation Officer Dominic Salmon says eDay is a great chance to get rid of ‘junk’ printers, monitors and other items which are broken or unsellable.

“There is a lot of reusable material in e-waste, along with some nasty pollutants and heavy metals, so recycling is much better than burying this waste.”
