Tomorrow’s first Test between the BLACKCAPS and India in Ahmedabad will be a special milestone for New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori.

The opening Test of the series will mark Vettori’s 100th Test for New Zealand. He is only the second New Zealand player to reach the milestone.

He was recognised earlier this year for reaching 100 Tests including 99 for New Zealand and one for the World XI. Tomorrow will he make his 100th Test appearance for the BLACKCAPS.

Vettori made his Test debut in Wellington against England in 1997 and during his 13 year Test career he has made 3962 runs averaging 30.71 with a high score of 140 and has taken 325 Test wickets with the best figures of 12/149 for a match.

New Zealand Cricket CEO Justin Vaughan said it is a wonderful milestone for the captain. “I’d like to congratulate Daniel Vettori on achieving the fantastic milestone of playing 100 Test Matches for New Zealand. He is only the second New Zealander to do so and it is a very special achievement.

“Dan has contributed significantly to Test cricket over the last 13 years. We have had the privilege of watching him develop into a truly world class cricketer over this time and look forward to him continuing to represent his country with great distinction in the future.

Only one other New Zealand cricketer has played over 100 Test games. Former BLACKCAPS captain Stephen Fleming played 111 Test matches for New Zealand, totalling over 7000 runs during his 14 year Test career.

The first Test will be broadcast live on Sky Sport 1 from 4.45pm tomorrow.
