Iconic Kiwi company Masport is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a centenary staff reunion which will bring together some of the organisation’s most celebrated former employees.

The reunion, to be held on November 28th in Auckland, will see a predicted 300 past and current Masport staff members reunite including family members of the late Reuben Porter who founded the company in 1910.

Kiwi engineer and entrepreneur Porter created Masport alongside fellow engineers Harold Mason and Edwin Jones and quickly established a reputation for quality engineering work – a foundation which is still adhered to today.

David Porter, grandson of Reuben and a former Masport employee, will attend the reunion alongside past Chief Executives and loyal staff members who helped to shape the success of the company.

Masport General Manager Steve Hughes says 100 years in business is a milestone few Kiwi companies reach and it’s the Masport team’s loyalty and innovation that has been instrumental in its success.

“The Masport story in New Zealand is a remarkable one, given the dramatic changes that have occurred in the past 100 years – we are fortunate to be here at all, let alone leading the market,” says Hughes.

“We’re excited to be able to celebrate our achievements and this huge milestone with the people who have helped to make this company what it is today at the centenary reunion.”

Dedicated employee and one of the company’s chief designers, Gordon Boswell, 82, has nearly 56 years of service to his name and will also be in attendance at the reunion.

With a degree in physics, Boswell has been responsible for hundreds of Masport’s innovative designs and is involved primarily in the development of new products. During his time with the company Boswell has created hand-made prototypes for products including roller mowers, rotary hoes, gas and wood fires and even waste disposals.
