With Guy Fawkes Day almost here, fireworks aficionados are reminded to not use fireworks in the district’s parks, reserves and beaches.

Manager Parks Mark Bruhn says only groups with a licensed pyrotechnic and with Council approval can let off fireworks in Council-owned areas.

“This is in place for the safety of the public and to keep the fauna and flora in our parks and reserves as safe as possible,” says Mr Bruhn.

“There’s only one event approved in our parks this season, and that’s Saturday’s Fireworks Spectacular at the TSB Bowl of Brooklands.

“If anyone has bought private fireworks, they should let them off safely at their homes and ensure they have a hose close by in case of any unexpected spread of fire.”

The Bowl’s gates for the Fireworks Spectacular open at 6.30pm on Saturday with a gold coin donation. The stage entertainment starts at 7.00pm with the fireworks display starting at 9.05pm.

No personal fireworks are allowed at the Fireworks Spectacular. Any brought to the Bowl will be confiscated at the bag search entry points.

  • Brooklands Zoo will be closed from 3.30pm on Saturday to enable Portaloos to be installed in the zoo car park.
