WELLINGTON CITY

Wellingtonians: whether you're attending the Montana World of WearableArt Awards Show this year or not, you can get into the spirit of the occasion with a series of suitably quirky and energetic - free - lunchtime performances in the central city.

To celebrate the third year of WOW being held in Wellington, OZ Star Airlines, Mr Fungus and Vinyl Burns will provide hilarious air hostess antics, New Zealand's loudest mime and a fantastic visual comedy act respectively. Performances will take place at Midland Park on Lambton Quay or on the corner of Cuba and Manners Malls.

Mayor Kerry Prendergast says the performances are a great way to include the local community in the WOW experience. "The WOW Awards Show is all about celebrating creativity and putting on a stunning show. In that spirit, the Council is getting larger than life performers out on the streets to add to the atmosphere – anyone can enjoy the fun."

Weekday performances will run at 12.30pm - 1.30pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in Midland Park, from Wednesday
19 September to Friday 28 September.

Weekend performances will take place at 12.30pm - 1.30pm on the corner of Cuba and Manners Malls on Saturday 22, Sunday
23, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 September.

The Montana World of WearableArt Awards Show opens on Thursday 20 September at the TSB Bank Arena and runs until 30 September. There will be nine two-hour shows.

Each year WOW's sell-out shows attract more than 30,000 people. The event brings in over $8 million of new spending to Wellington City yearly.
