Seeking to celebrate those working for their communities
Nominations are now being sought from the public for the Far North District Council's 2010 Citizens' Awards, designed to honour those in the community who work without reward to make the district a better place.
The awards are an opportunity to celebrate the voluntary work which goes on behind the scenes to keep our communities healthy and vibrant.
"We are looking for the good Samaritans who over a long period of time have worked tirelessly without reward or recognition to make a difference for those in need, the disadvantaged and those generally in less fortunate situations.
“We all know people who quietly get on with the business of helping others, often in a humble and self-effacing way, and we want to hear about them so we can acknowledge their efforts and thank them for the selfless service they give to their communities,” Advisory Services Manager Richard Palmer said today.
There is no age restriction on nominees.
"The only qualifying criteria is that their involvement should have occurred over a prolonged period of time, their contributions must be notable and without payment or reward, and they must reside in the district," he said.
A maximum of 10 awards are made each year and the presentations will take place at a special function in February next year.
Nominations for the 2010 awards will close on Friday 10 December. Nominations forms are available at all council Service Centres, on the council website at www.fndc.govt.nz or by calling 0800 920 029.
