Mangonui waterfront project launched
The $1,126,929 contract for the redevelopment of the Mangonui waterfront was officially launched this week with a site blessing ceremony.
The project is expected to revitalize the Mangonui waterfront with the potential to substantially enhance marine-related recreational activities in the area, significantly improve parking in the township, and create an improved pedestrian environment in keeping with the historic nature of the waterfront.
Construction will start almost immediately with the project expected to be largely completed before the Christmas holiday period. To meet Resource Consent conditions, work will cease over the holiday break and the final stages of construction will be completed early in the New Year.
The contract for the project has been let to HEB Contracting Ltd and involves reclamation work, construction of 170 metres of new boardwalk, the development of 72 angled car parks, a new dinghy ramp and open green areas for passive recreation.
