Franklin District Council has adopted changes to the District’s Dog Policy. If you are thinking of owning a dog you need to know about these changes.

From 1st October 2007 the Dog Policy will be changed in the following ways:

No more multidog permits will be granted for any dog classified as dangerous or menacing by deed or breed in accordance with the Dog Control Act 1996.

All dogs classified as Menacing by deed or breed as from 1st October will be required to be neutered within one month of receiving the classification.

Multidog permit applicants must obtain a dog owner licence before Council will consider issuing the multidog permit.

“Council is making these changes as we believe they will help protect the community and promote responsible dog ownership,” says Franklin District Council’s Director of Regulatory Services, Peter Thom.

You can view a copy of the Dog Policy and learn more about obtaining a dog owners licence on Council’s website, www.franklin.govt.nz, at one of the Council offices, or at the Pukekohe, Tuakau and Waiuku Library.

If you have any questions or concerns about how these changes will influence your specific situation please contact Council’s Customer Services Team on 09 237 1300.
