Christchurch Man Wins Pure Futures

Steinlager Pure is pleased to announce Simon Courtney as the winner of the latest Pure Futures award.
 
Simon Courtney, who is based in Christchurch, uploaded his vision onto the Pure Futures website as “I am building handmade bicycles that are pure art, craft and performance.” As his prize he will receive $10,000 cash and media support.
 
The Pure Futures campaign, which began in April, has had 620 Pure Visions loaded and 19,739 people registered as part of the online community to date. 22 people have been helped throughout the campaign with cash and mentorships to help realise their ambitions. A judging panel which included mentors, Duncan Blair, Stolen Girlfriends Club, York Spencer, and Jamie McLellan, met on November 11 and selected Simon as the overall winner.
 
Dan Gosling, Director Stolen Girlfriends Club commented, “I liked the idea and the green feel. He is a young guy trying to do something a bit different with a design and it has great commercial viability.”
 
Simon’s vision was ignited when he ordered a hand built bicycle and realised it would take five years from America because demand was so huge for customised and handmade bicycles.
 
Self taught in welding and metal work, Simon believes this has given him the chance to write his own rules. “Each bicycle is made to a customised set of angles and lengths, using specifically-chosen steel tubes so it will perform outstandingly when ridden with intent,” says Simon.
