Hastings Intermediate class Room 5 will get a free day at Splash Planet after winning the Splash Planet Facebook Freebie competition by a country mile.

Splash Planet’s Facebook page went from 700 fans to 1250 over the course of the competition where the class with the most “likes” on their comment won a free day at New Zealand’s only water theme park.

Room 5 was a hot favourite from the start and when the unique likes were tallied up last night Room 5 had more than double the second placed school.

Other schools that fought hard for the prize were Mahora, Frimley, Dannevirke High and even schools from as far away as Wellington and Nelson entered into the competition.

Hastings Intermediate Principal Andrew Shortcliff says the children are thrilled at the result.

“We’re really proud of the kids for organising themselves to win the competition and they’re a really deserving group of kids. Their teacher, Christy Turner, is on leave getting married this week so it will be a lovely present for her when she gets back,” Mr Shortcliff says.

Hastings Intermediate pupils are already participating in their own school-wide competition for a trip to Splash Planet with the internal Behaviour Reward Competition.

Mr Shortcliff says classes that display the school’s virtues including punctuality, good behavior in class and around the school win a trip to Splash Planet.

“The children love it. A trip to Splash Planet is a great motivator for them,” he says.

Splash Planet has had a healthy start to the season with 4300 visitors over the weekend alone.
