Environment Waikato and the Raukawa Trust Board have signed a new agreement to facilitate cooperation between the regional council and the board on environmental issues.

Raukawa Trust Board chairman John Edmonds said the memorandum of understanding “provides a solid foundation to work together on regional environmental issues”.

Environment Waikato chairman Jenni Vernon said it was the responsibility of all New Zealanders to protect the environment and believed the agreement paved the way for solid, long-term cooperation with Raukawa.

“I think it will go forward into generations beyond mine,” said Cr Vernon.

The memorandum of understanding, signed on Wednesday at Environment Waikato, includes commitments to work together on sustainable management of natural and physical resources, and of taonga of importance to Raukawa.
