New Zealand Cricket today confirmed pace bowler Daryl Tuffey will return to New Zealand to recover from a bicep strain he suffered during the first One-Day International.

Selector Mark Greatbatch said: “Daryl developed some discomfort in his right bicep when playing but was able to manage it during the match.

“It’s appears to be OK when he bowls but he’s unable to throw without pain so he will return to New Zealand to for further assessment and treatment.

“At this stage, a replacement player will not be added to the BLACKCAPS squad but we may call in some cover for the last few matches.

Brendon McCullum and Daniel Vettori, who both have back injuries, will continue to be monitored by the medical staff in advance of the second One-Day International against India in Jaipur on Wednesday.

“We are hopeful that both Dan and Brendon will be available for the next match.  Dan is more likely at this stage but we are monitoring both on a day-by-day basis,

“A decision on the final line-up not expected until shortly before the match.” Greatbatch added.
