School waste minimisation competition postponed
The Waitaki District Council’s annual waste minimization competition for schools has been postponed until the New Year.
Waste minimisation officer, Gerry O’Neill, said due to their busy schedules during the last term, most schools were unable to complete and submit their entries on time.
“We therefore decided it was best to postpone the competition until the New Year and find a time that would be suitable for the majority of schools”.
Mr. O’Neill said they had planned to run the competition earlier this year, however, due to Council staff workloads this was not possible.
“It was run later in the year than we would have liked, and obviously, this has proven to be an issue for schools. We want to give everyone the chance to enter, so the fairest option was to postpone it until the New Year.”
Mr. O’Neill apologised for any inconvenience caused to schools by the change.
He said schools will be contacted by the Council early in the school year regarding a new timeline for the competition.
