1) Plan and book early! Put a venue in charge of organizing your function so you can take all the glory afterwards
2) Therefore choose your venue wisely, make sure they are Christmas-function friendly
3) Allocate a decent amount of your funds towards the top shelf – but at the same time don’t blow it all on booze; be a responsible host and give people the chance to eat some decent, tasty Christmas fare
4) Get your invites out early and be ruthless with RSVPs
5) On the day, don’t be afraid to start the party early
6) Put the venue in charge of running around on the day so you can relax and enjoy your hard work
7) If you’re giving Secret Santa gifts, don’t be the loser that forgets to buy one. No one likes being left without a pressie
8) Have a great time! After all it’s your party and you earned a celebration
9) Avoid the camera – what goes on tour should stay on tour, and what might seem like a good idea at the time will inevitably end up on the staffroom bulletin board for years to come
10) Avoid costume or clothing malfunctions, no one wants to expose their secrets to the boss
11) If you’re not such a great dancer, don’t bust out your moves. You might be feeling great after several drinks, but chances are your colleagues will think you’re a bit kooky
12) No matter how right it feels don’t kiss the weird guy that spends too much time next to the photocopier
13) Put that last round of shots on the company credit card – you’ve definitely earned it
14) If you’re the boss, do the right thing and leave at a respectable time so the staff can really let their hair down
15) Try and hold your party at the end of the week, and if that can’t be done then at least cut your team some slack if they turn up for work a little hung over the next day. Sausage rolls the morning after are a winner!
