The NZ Transport Agency is reminding drivers that the section of the Southern Motorway (State Highway 1) between Market Road and Greenlane will be closed for three consecutive nights to southbound traffic starting on Sunday, 2 January. One lane northbound will also be closed.

The closure times are:-
• Sunday, 2 January [8.30pm-8am]
• Monday, 3 January [8.30pm-8am]
• Tuesday, 4 January [8pm-6am]

The closures are required for the installation of central median barriers on the motorway as part of the Newmarket Connection: 4th Lane Extension project. They are timed to coincide with lower traffic volumes during the holiday break to minimise disruption. Southbound traffic will be diverted from Market Road, along Great South Road, to rejoin the Southern Motorway at the Greenlane interchange.

If bad weather disrupts the safety work, the contingency date to complete the median barrier installation will be Saturday, 8 January.

THE NZTA thanks motorists and residents along Great South Road for their patience and support.
