New Zealand Cricket is pleased to announce that former South African fast bowler Allan Donald has joined the BLACKCAPS as bowling coach for The National Bank ODI Series against Pakistan and ICC Cricket World Cup.

Donald, 44, has recently finished a stint as head coach of Zimbabwe domestic side the Mountaineers and has previously worked with Warwickshire and the England national side as bowling coach.

Donald will work alongside head coach John Wright and assistant coach Trent Woodhill in the BLACKCAPS unit.

New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive Justin Vaughan heralded the signing saying, “Allan’s appointment is an exciting one for the BLACKCAPS. His extensive coaching and playing experience should make a really positive impact.

“We talked to Allan back in 2008 when an assistant coaching role was available and although he seriously considered coming on board he decided to stay on with Warwickshire. It is great he is now willing to commit to the BLACKCAPS and I know he is really looking forward to the challenge of returning to international cricket and working with the BLACKCAPS bowlers,” Vaughan added.

Donald will join the BLACKCAPS one-day squad in Wellington on Thursday, ahead of their first match of The National Bank ODI Series against Pakistan and work with the team through to the conclusion of the 2011 ICC World Cup.
