Green Party MP Nandor Tanczos will be joined by Acting Minister for the Environment David Parker to outline proposed changes to the Waste Minimisation (Solids) Bill at the Green Party Parliamentary caucus room at one o’clock tomorrow [Tuesday, 18th September].

The new Supplementary Order Paper (SOP) will replace much of the current Waste Bill, and has been developed by the Minister for the Environment in collaboration with Nandor. It is expected to be presented to the Local Government and Environment Select Committee later this week.

Mr Tanczos and Mr Parker will present an outline of the detailed changes to the Bill, to be renamed the Waste Minimisation and Resource Recovery Bill, and answer questions.

“I have appreciated working with Mr Parker, and David Benson-Pope before him, to redraft the Bill in a way that is compatible with the Bill’s original intention, and meets the Government’s policy objectives on waste,” Mr Tanczos, Greens’ Spokesperson on Waste Minimisation issues says.

“As I've already acknowledged, some provisions and processes in the Bill were overly onerous, and some streamlining needed to occur – the Select Committee has been doing a great job of this.
