Nominations Sought For DCC Community Assistance Subcommittee
The Dunedin City Council is looking for two community representatives, one arts and one events, to assist the Community Assistance Sub-Committee in its deliberations allocating $836,600 to a range of community groups.
Nominations for the appointments close on Wednesday 2 March 2011.
Committee chairperson Cr Jinty MacTavish says “This is a rewarding committee to be involved with offering the opportunity to learn so much about what is going on in the Arts, Recreation and Community sectors, and be involved with the work carried out by many small groups of volunteers.”
The Community Assistance Subcommittee is made up of four elected Councillors; an iwi appointed representative, the two community representatives and separate events and arts representatives. Committee representatives are appointed for a three-year term and will assist the committee in making informed decisions.
The committee meets twice a year, in May and November, to disburse $836,600 in grant money. There are usually about 100 applications for the various grants in each round. This entails a large amount of reading and evaluating applications prior to the Committee meeting and assessing the recommendations made by staff.
“We fund a diverse range of arts, recreation, community welfare and events projects and are looking for four people to complement the knowledge and skills of the existing committee. The successful nominees will have an extensive knowledge of community groups and processes,” adds Cr MacTavish.
Nomination forms can be collected from the Customer Services Centre in the Civic Centre, or by calling DCC Community Advisor Paul Coffey on 474 3847.
