The New Zealand Defence Force has released the name of the soldier killed in a motor accident in Afghanistan yesterday.

Private Kirifi Mila was travelling in a vehicle in a convoy operating in the North East of Bamyan as part of the Provincial Reconstruction Team and died after his vehicle rolled off the road down a steep cliff .

PTE Mila was deployed to Afghanistan last year and is part of the 2nd 1st Battalion, Royal New Zeland Infantry Regiment of the NZ Army based in Burnham Military Camp. He was born on 3 February 1984 and joined the NZ Defence Force in 2006.

His brother is also a serving member of the NZ Army. Further details will be sent when they come to hand.

Pte Mila was a popular member of the unit who was well known as a colourful character. He will be sorely missed by his comrades.
