Christchurch International Airport will open for domestic flights from 8am this morning.
“Our staff have worked through the night to ensure the domestic terminal is fit for use today,” said the Chief Executive of Christchurch Airport, Jim Boult. “Our runways were thoroughly checked by engineers yesterday afternoon, and were cleared for operation at 7pm last night. We have had emergency flights throughout the night, bringing in medical personnel and supplies, as well as police, St John’s Ambulance, military and civil defence people. In two hours we can open for commercial flights.”
It is expected that the airport will open for international flights in the afternoon. At 10am, the airport will confirm what time this will begin.
All domestic and international passengers are requested to check the airport website (www.christchurchairport.co.nz) or to call their airline for flight details. Passengers should not come to the airport unless they have confirmation their flight is scheduled.
