HAMILTON

The national Building Bridges to Wellbeing Conference opened today [19 September 2007] at Novotel Tainui, signifying Hamilton’s first-time hosting of this biennial conference.

The conference will run from 19-21 September and is for community development practitioners from local authorities, government organisations and community groups to meet, share ideas and gain new insights.

Council’s Social Development team leader and Building Bridges to Wellbeing Conference project manager, Ruth Buckingham says it is both a significant privilege and opportunity to showcase Hamilton and the city’s community development projects to a national audience.

“In a growing city like Hamilton, community development is important to help future-proof the city’s infrastructure. Council is committed to doing its part to ensure Hamiltonians continue to enjoy a high quality of community life. The conference provides an opportunity for local authorities, government agencies and community groups to share knowledge and experience with over 200 delegates from around New Zealand.”
