Farmer meeting offers environmental advice

A meeting being organised by Environment Waikato in association with Federated Farmers is offering dry stock farmers the chance to get up to speed with some key issues associated with dry-stock farming.

The latest Dry Stock Liaison Group meeting is being held on Friday 25 March at the Waitomo Golf & Country Club at 68 Golf Rd, Otorohanga.

The eventkicks off at 9.40am with a brief update on carbon farming strategy from river and catchment services committee chairman Cr Stu Kneebone.

Other presentations will include:

· EW’s Peter Singleton on environmental issues affecting dry stock farming

· AgResearch’s Richard McDowell on phosphorous

· AgResearch’s Gavin Sheath on drystock farming challenges

· Farmer William Oliver on dry stock farming options in a changing environment


EW’s sustainable agriculture coordinator Bala Tikkisetty will facilitate a discussion on the issues after the presentation.

Dry Stock Liaison Group meetings are held every six months and focus on balancing environmental sustainability and profitable land management.
