The Show Goes on for Armageddon Wellington
Armageddon Expo is set to roll into Wellington for a weekend of epic proportions on April 9th and 10th as gamers, comic and sci-fi fans, geeks, and nerds descend on the TSB Arena in Wellington for two big days of fantasy and entertainment.
Boasting a galactic mix of TV and sci-fi movie stars, comic artists, wrestlers, gamers and anime devotees, the Armageddon Expo has a dedicated following of thousands of all ages. They get into character, grab their first edition comic, collectors dvd or camera and often spend all weekend at the show – getting autographs, photos and those all important glimpses of those stars from galaxies far, far away.
“We find that the international stars love coming to Wellington,” says founder and organizer Bill Geradts. “It is renowned worldwide as the home of hobbits, animation and fantasy films and they’re keen to see the home of so much talent. “Where could be better for a show for fans of fantasy and sci-fi,” he said.
This April, top billing for Armageddon Wellington goes to superstar Kristanna Lokken, best known for her role as the extremely dangerous leather-clad cyborg in Terminator 3. She’ll be joined by one of television’s most complex, ever evolving characters from Battlestar Galatica, Katee Sackhoff, as well as the 6th Doctor Who, Colin Baker and John Leeson, the voice of K9 in the Doctor Who series. Joining this stellar line up is Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones star John Rhys Davies.
Young fans of the popular American animated TV show Ben 10, will be delighted to meet Paul Eiding (voice of Grandpa Maxwell ‘Max’ Tennyson) in the flesh, along with other voice artists including Johnny Yong Bosch (Bleach, Trigun) and Mike Sinterniklaas (Dean Venture and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).
Comic writers and artists Amanda Conner (Artist – Powergirl, The Pro), Jimmy Palmiotti (Writer – Jonah Hex, Powergirl, Time Bomb) and Bill Willingham (Writer – Fables, JSA, Angel) will also be heading to the windy city with their sketch pad and autograph pencil in hand.
Now a powerful Australasian franchise, the Armageddon Expo has shows in Auckland, Wellington, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne. It began as a simply trading card event, before the global explosion in sci-fi took off worldwide. The Christchurch edition of the show scheduled for the 2nd/3rd April was postponed because of the recent earthquake and damage to the city.
The head office for Armageddon Expo is in Christchurch, and unfortunately like many others, Bill’s family suffered extensive damage to their home and business in the earthquake. However, Bill remains resolute saying; “There is no intention for us to move at this stage, we are planning to stay in Christchurch and continue to focus and build on the success of the Armageddon Expo from here”.
