Supporting the community to ensure Pomare is a healthy, vibrant and secure place is the aim of a new multi-agency initiative says Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace and Housing Minister Phil Heatley.

Hutt City Council and Housing New Zealand (HNZ) have come together with other government agencies including Police, Ministry of Social Development, the Hutt Valley District Health Board and Te Puni Kōkiri to work with the Pomare community to reinvigorate the suburb.

Mayor Ray Wallace is looking forward to taking this collaborative approach.

“Like all our communities, Pomare is an important part of our city. As Mayor I want to help make this a place residents are proud to call home and this means working with the Pomare community and other agencies to make a positive difference.

“We have had an initial meeting with community representatives and explained our role, together with the other agencies involved, will be to support the community to create their own vision for the suburb and help them achieve it,” says Mayor Wallace.

Housing Minister Phil Heatley, who recently met with the Mayor, says Housing New Zealand is committed to working alongside the community, the council and other agencies to help build a better Pomare.

“I am pleased that Housing New Zealand is part of this initiative as housing is an important part of the way people feel about the area they live in.

“Housing New Zealand is committed to providing warm and healthy new homes configured to suit the needs of residents as we believe this will bring huge benefits to not only the tenants but also the wider community,” says Mr Heatley.
