The 13thannual AMP Scholarship Programme is again set to help Kiwis do great things, with $200,000 up for grabs in 2011.

Applications open on Friday April 1 to all Kiwis who have been doing outstanding things in their fields and need extra help to help them turn their dreams into reality – whether their thing is the arts, sciences, sport, design, inventing, business, community services or any other industry.

Unlike other scholarship programmes, the only requirements are passion, creativity and a ‘can-do’ attitude to achieve a unique dream. AMP’s thing is giving a helping hand to Kiwis who can prove they have the commitment and talent to achieve extraordinary things.

Blair Vernon, AMP General Manager, believes the AMP Scholarship programme differs from many others available in New Zealand.

“The AMP Scholarship Programme is borderless. It celebrates any Kiwi of any age with a dream they are determined to realise. We want to acknowledge Kiwis of all ages, who are passionate and committed to reaching their goals whatever they may be. It’s that ‘make it happen’ attitude that’s what being a Kiwi is all about” he concludes.

Last year saw Kiwis from all walks of life apply, including a 92 year-old world-class swimmer, a bagpipe creator and an aspiring cyclist. One 2010 AMP Scholarship winner, high-school student Shana Llorando, has already reached her short-term goal of producing her first studio-recorded single, which inspired the introduction of the newly created $15,000 Study Start Scholarship to this year’s programme.

To date, the AMP Scholarships Programme has awarded more than $1.2 million worth of scholarships to 112 Kiwis who are doing great things. AMP is gearing up to help even more Kiwis this year.

Applications are open from April 1 2011. Visit www.doyourthing.co.nz for more information.

In 2011 there are four scholarship categories, including:

  • Study Start (new category inspired by Shana Llorando) – $15,000 for one Year 12 or 13 student towards their tertiary studies
  • AMP National Scholarship – Open to any NZ residents who are committed to achieving their dream
  • AMP Regional Scholarships – Regional Scholarships totaling more than $55,000, awarded by AMP Adviser Businesses
  • People’s Choice – All applicants are eligible for a further $10,000 as voted by New Zealanders on www.doyourthing.co.nz from June 1 2011
