WELLINGTON CITY

The Armageddon Expo rolls into the TSB Arena in Wellington this weekend as part of its five stop tour, geared up and ready to entertain the legions of die-hard sci-fi and anime fans, gamers and comic enthusiasts residing the lower north island.

Saturday April 9th and Sunday April 10th will see over 15,000 devotees rush to the Queens Wharf area in order to meet their idols, take part in fantastic fantasy competitions, and experience the very latest in gaming technologies.

Film and TV stars in Wellington for the Armageddon Expo include Kristanna Loken, most recognisable for playing the highly dangerous leather-clad cyborg from Terminator 3; Katee Sackhoff, who played one of Battlestar Galatica’s most complex characters, Captain Kara Thrace, and also recently guest starred in hit TV shows 24, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and The Big Bang Theory. Colin Baker, known for his role as the legendary 6th Doctor Who and John Leeson, the voice of K9 in the Doctor Who series will also be appearing at the event alongside Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones star John Rhys Davies.

A major draw card for young fans of the popular American animated TV show Ben 10 will be meeting Paul Eiding (the voice of Grandpa Max Tennyson) in the flesh, as well as Mike Sinterniklaas (voice of Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Anime devotees will be thrilled to meet voice artist Johnny Yong Bosch (lead voicing in Bleach and Trigun) who is also known for his role as Adam Park in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Comic writers and artists Amanda Conner (Artist – Powergirl, The Pro) and Jimmy Palmiotti (Writer – Jonah Hex, Powergirl, Time Bomb) will be heading to the TSB Arena with sketch pad and autograph pencil in hand!

While the comics, anime and celebrity panels are taking place, visitors to Armageddon will be able to check out a huge assortment of live entertainment taking place including a Paintball Gun Shooting Range, movie screenings, a Cosplay Parade and Competition, Dragonball Z Kamehameha Competition, giant pillow fights, Fear Factor Eating Competitions, live wrestling matches plus a special performance by the band Eyeshine.

Armageddon Expo organiser Bill Geradts is thrilled with what’s in store for Wellington this weekend “We find that the international stars love coming to Wellington” says Bill “renowned worldwide as the home of animation and fantasy film, they’re very keen to see the home of so much talent”.

Now a powerful Australasian franchise, the Armageddon Expo tours through Wellington, Auckland, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne. The Christchurch chapter of the show was set to take place on April 2nd and 3rd but was postponed due to the recent earthquake devastation.

The head office for Armageddon Expo is in Christchurch, and unfortunately like many others, Bill’s family suffered extensive damage to their home and business in the earthquake. However, Bill remains resolute saying; “There is no intention for us to move at this stage, we are planning to stay in Christchurch and continue to focus and build on the success of the Armageddon Expo from here”.
