Christchurch Embassy To Close
As the numbers visiting the Embassy have greatly reduced, the Embassy will cease operation at 3pm on Tuesday 12 April.
Those people who still need information about services available in Dunedin can contact Dunedin Community House, 301 Moray Place or phone 467 5874.
The Christchurch Embassy was established following the 22 February earthquake for those who had left Christchurch. Since the Christchurch Embassy opened, it has assisted more than 1300 Christchurch residents, directing them to essential services, providing information, lending an ear or just connecting them with others. The Embassy has found housing, provided clothing and food, and provided a space to simply rest for a moment.
For Christchurch people who would like to meet up with each other, two local businesses are providing hospitality and a networking area:
≈ Ironic Bar and Café, 9 Anzac Ave (opposite the Railway Station) Wednesdays from 5pm – 6pm
≈ The Railway Station Café (Dunedin and Mosgiel) Wednesdays from 10am – 11am.
The Embassy was made possible through the collective support of social service agencies, the University of Otago Student’s Association, community organisations, businesses and individuals in the community with support from the DCC and Mayor Dave Cull. It was a true collaboration and showed the spirit of Dunedin pulling together to support people through crisis.
To thank the people, organisations and businesses who volunteered their time, resources, products and support to the Christchurch Embassy, Mayor Cull has invited them to a gathering at the Embassy on Tuesday 12 April from 5pm onwards. Media are welcome to attend this event at the Community Gallery.
