EDU Support Helps Local Company Win
Local company Seperex Nutritionals Ltd has been recognised for innovation and technology in the natural products industry.
At the Natural Products NZ Industry Awards in Nelson last week, Seperex Nutritionals received the Cawthron Innovation in Science and Technology Award for its research and development innovations for two bioactive marine extracts, BioLex® and BioLex-Plus®, both of which have attracted substantial global interest.
Dr Andrew Sansom, Chief Scientific Officer at Seperex said the ongoing support the company has received in Dunedin, in particular from the DCC’s Economic Development Unit, has contributed to the success the company has enjoyed.
The company has received two Ministry of Science and Innovation, TechNZ investments to support their on going research, accessed through the EDU. The latest investment will allow the company to conduct clinical trials and further technical development.
The company has also, through a subsidiary marketing company Natural Koha Ltd, been supported by the EDU’s Marketing Support programme to help market its product in Europe and the UK.
Ross Grey, Business Development Advisor at the EDU, said it is vitally important to support innovation in the city. “Assisting local companies to gain access to DCC and Government support allows them to develop products faster and reach target markets quicker to keep ahead of overseas competition.”
“Developing a product of this nature requires input from a range of scientific disciplines and we are fortunate in Dunedin to have collaborated with some outstanding contract research providers,” Dr Sansom says
